Description of Program
The Vanderbilt University Medical Center Endourology/Laparoscopic
Urology Fellowship Program will commence July 2001. This one-year
program is a combined clinical, surgical and research experience.
The patient experience will be devoted to all aspects of endourology,
laparoscopy, and ESWL. In addition, animal laboratory facilities
are available for research oriented to clinical aspects of minimally
invasive surgery. The fellow will also experience outpatient clinic
with emphasis on evaluation and management of laparoscopic urology
patients, metabolic evaluation and medical management of stone disease
patients and the evaluation and preparation of patients with upper
and lower tract endourologic disease. The program is designed for
individuals seeking an academic career in endourology and minimally
invasive surgery.

Bench space and animal lab facilities
The Department of Urologic Surgery has 1,150 linear feet of laboratory
bench space available. In addition, there is 1,533 square feet of
animal laboratory facilities, including animal housing and animal
surgery suite.
Availability of Ph.D. to supervise research
Yes, two basic science Ph.D.'s are available to supervise research
within the Department of Urologic Surgery. In addition, there is
a Ph.D to supervise animal research laboratory activities.
On campus housing
No, but a variety of housing is available in the Vanderbilt University/West
End area.
Fellows do not take night calls.

Programs
